Western Illinois University the Best Online Bachelor's for Veterans

No comments:
Western Illinois University the Best Online Bachelor's for Veterans (Online University) - Because of Western Illinois University's continued commitment to veterans and active military personnel, the University has been recognized by the U.S.News and World Report for offering a "Best Online Bachelor's Program for Veterans."

In the latest U.S. News "best" rankings, Western placed 57th out of 185 schools across the nation and is the only Illinois public university to appear in the top 60 online bachelor's program rankings.

"This most recent ranking further demonstrates Western's support and dedication to the men and women who have served, or currently serve, in our nation's armed forces," said Rick Carter, executive director of the School of Distance Learning, International Studies and Outreach.

The U.S.News "Best Online Programs for Veterans" rankings measure affordability, accessibility and reputation, along with financial benefits available to service personnel. In order to be considered for the veterans' rankings, a school must first have to be ranked among the top 75 percent of schools in U.S.News "Best Online Programs" rankings, which were released in January. Western was ranked 63rd out of 214 colleges from across the U.S. and was one of four Illinois public universities in the top 100.

The University offers the longstanding Bachelor of Arts in General Studies (BGS), which offers students the option of obtaining their degree entirely via distance learning opportunities, or a combination of on-campus and distance learning classes, making it the ideal undergraduate program for active military personnel and veterans.

"The BGS degree program, which was established in 1972, serves adult students who are unable to attend a traditional college program due to other obligations, like military service," Carter explained. "In addition, rather than requiring a specific major, the program allows the student to design her or his program to meet individual educational goals. Students may also be eligible for academic credit for college-level learning that was done in a non-collegiate setting, such as the military or on-the-job training."

For a veteran or an active member of the military, the program provides a great deal of individualization and flexibility, Carter added. In addition to the U.S.News recognition, for the past decade, Western has been acknowledged as a "Military Friendly School, "Best for Vets College" and "Top Military-Friendly University" by a variety of military-related services and programs.

Online Northern Arizona University

Through NAU-Extended Campuses, you can choose from a variety of accredited, entirely online degree programs and pursue your bachelor’s or master’s degree without interrupting work or your personal life.

NAU also offers degree programs in a blended format, which means you complete some courses online and some in person at one of the more than 30 campuses across Arizona.

How Online Classes Work
As an online student, you take courses through the Blackboard Learn (BbLearn) platform. There, you can connect with professor and peers, participate in discussions and view lecture presentations, much like an in-person class, but from the location and during the time most suitable for you.

Most online classes are asynchronous, meaning you log in and “attend class” when most convenient. However, some classes are synchronous, with set times  when you are required to log in and participate. Look for asynchronous or synchronous when registering for online classes.

NOTE: This does not apply to Personalized Learning, which uses a different platform.

Online Class Resources & Support
NAU offers numerous resources for online students. These include
  • Technical Support – The Student Technology Center offers 24/7 IT support during the Fall and Spring semesters and daytime-hour support in the summertime.
  • Online Library Resources – The NAU Cline Library provides online access to journals, e-books, Google Scholar and other resources. You can even chat live with Cline librarians.
  • Tutoring – Need assistance with science, math or writing? AZTutor Online Tutoring will connect you with an online tutor who can help.
  • Campus Resources – You can also tap the resources of your local NAU campus, including computer labs, in-person tutoring, IT help and more.

Personalized Learning: The Self-Paced Option
If you are motivated to complete your bachelor’s degree online at your own pace, then consider one of NAU’s new Personalized Learning degree programs.

Personalized Learning is a competency-based, self-paced program with no set classes or schedules. Coursework is entirely online and customized to fit what you already know and how you learn.

It’s not right for everyone, but it might be right for you. Take a quick online self-assessment to find out. Source and more information please visit: http://ec.nau.edu/WebDoc/Tips-for-Online-Students+257.pdf)
